Annual Enrollment Period for Medicare Prescription Drug Plans October 15-December 7, 2017
The Medicare Prescription Drug coverage annual election period provides current Medicare beneficiaries with one opportunity each year (between October 15 and December 7) to select a new drug plan. (This does not apply to people New to Medicare or those with Extra Help paying for their prescriptions. They have different options.)
If you did not sign up for a drug plan or if your plan doesn’t cover all the medicines you are currently taking, you now have the opportunity to enroll in a new or different plan.
People who have a plan now have received information about any changes for 2018. Look at this carefully to see the premium, deductible, or formulary (list of medicines covered) changes for next year. If you want to stay in your current Medicare Prescription Drug Plan, you do not have to do anything.
You can compare all of the plans offered in North Carolina by going to www.medicare.gov, clicking on Find Drug and Health Plans and, on the next page, watch the Plan Finder Multimedia to see the process. Then enter your personal information in the spaces provided and proceed.
For people who cannot compare plans for themselves, our counselors can help you find the best plan to cover your medicines at the best cost. You will need to list all of your prescriptions on a form. If you need help from the senior center comparing plans, please print the attached MEDICARE PRESCRIPTION DRUG PLAN SEARCH FORM on one sheet of paper (front to back), complete it and drop it off. Or, come by the senior center 9-5 Monday-Friday to complete the form. Leave it with us. Once your comparison is finished, we will call to give you a report.
